Portrait #9 is brad

the next installment (#9 by my count) of the 50 Portraits series includes photos of my original model. brad and i have known each other for more than 13 years and our relationship has always been based on mutual respect. when we were younger, it was based on musical tastes. these days, as our musical tastes have morphed over the years, our mutual respect is based on watching each other become the adults that we are today. it’s fun to think and talk about the stupid things we did in college and in our post college years and it’s always great to laugh with people you know so well. when we see each other these days, we try to get that mushy stuff out of the way so that we can catch up on what’s happening in the present time. it’s fun. brad is a high-end bartender/mixologist. he’s known as a class act in the new york speakeasy circles. and he is. he’s also pretty sick of me taking his photo.

the music:
fujiya & miyagi are a group of electronic british dance rockers who try to pull off the idea that they are japanese like their name implies. well… they aren’t. but they do play fun little dance rock numbers that get your feet tapping. lots of bass, swirling keys, and just enough funky guitar add some spice to the electronic drums that push the beat. it’s light hearted and great for evenings at home and in the car. brad introduced me to them a while back and i’ve seen them in concert. they do quite well for themselves. their name always makes me think of the karate kid though. daniel san.

Our buddy Brad has turned into quite the Lil’ Miss Brooklyn, huh? Actually… he’s always been.
