the photography:

Portrait #10 is jamie

jamie is someone i met though two mutual friends in brooklyn. she didn’t really believe me when i said i was a photographer. then i started taking pictures. i think she got it pretty quickly after that. ever since i started this project, jamie might have been the easiest model to shoot. she has a natural comfort in front of the lens that allows me to shoot photos without much thought or care about what’s going on. it’s just brainless clicking and yet the photos speak volumes. i also love that she came equipped with her own leopard print jacket. normally i have to ask people to wear clothes like that. outstanding to say the least. after drinks, dinner, drinks, our crew became fast friends even though many of us had just met that day. it’s easy to hang out with people you have known for years and accept their friends as your own. at this point in life, i think the more the merrier. and what better setting than running around brooklyn?

the music:
oh my goodness i almost forgot about the band doves. these guys snuck onto my radar at some point in 2001 when i saw them play a show in boston with my morning jacket as the opening band. my morning jacket played flying V’s with marshall stacks and they blew my head off. doves came out and rocked me gently, rocked me slowly, and blew my brains out. this band is awesome, the music is grooving infectious indie rock and if people think that radiohead is the only good british band in that category, they have never heard doves. or the beta band for that matter. get your headphones on and love this record.
