the photography:
i have a hard time having fun while on vacation. it’s been a problem since i started to document my vacations with my camera. when i was younger, i was care free and easy to please. give me water, give me sunshine, give me good food and even better wine and i was a pig in mud. these days, all i want to do is take that one photo that gets me onto the National Geographic staff. i know i have touched on this subject before but every time i revisit my photographs from a trip, i just realize that somedays i just need to leave the camera at home and enjoy my surroundings. ireland is so photogenic it hurts. i think i shot more photos on a 10 day trip (which includes the 2 days i spent in bed with a head cold) than i shot in my entire life up to senior year of college. insanity. damn you digital cameras and your easy to download files. damn you indeed. next time i go there, i’m bringing the whole shooting match of 15 lens’ or more.

must… document… entire… country…

the music:
bruce is bruce. i spent much of this morning trying to convince a rather smart and dignified musician friend of mine that bruce springsteen is worth a damn. it still hasn’t stuck. and we can split hairs and point to how awful Tunnel of Love is and how overblown Nebraska is but my goodness, that dude has written some spectacular songs. and he keeps proving again and again that you don’t need the best voice in the world to kick butt. you just need to put on a 3 hour non-stop show at the age of 59.
